About the Frye Leadership Institute

The challenges and changes of contemporary higher education have created the need for campus leaders with new competencies and perspectives — people who can bring a new framework to our historic enterprise.

The purpose of the Frye Leadership Institute is to bring to tomorrow’s higher education leadership the insights and understanding of the issues that will inform this framework, including academic, technology, economic, public-policy, student, and constituent-relations dynamics.

The Institute is named in honor of Dr. Billy E. Frye, chancellor and former provost of Emory University, member of the board of the Council on Library and Information Resources, and a distinguished leader in higher education.

The Institute is supported by a grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and is sponsored by the Council on Library and Information Resources, EDUCAUSE, and Emory University.

The Institute results from work that these organizations have done to assess the implications of information technology for the scholarly and educational enterprise: the blurring of the formerly distinct boundaries among teaching, research, information management, and scholarly communication; and the extension of information resources, and services beyond the walls of traditional organizations (such as libraries, computer centers, and museums) to permeate the educational enterprise.
